EDIT** i7 8700K cpu.. I forgot to add this haha
Im getting really bad stutters in games and on desktop when opening and closing apps. I believe its my CPU because when I run Cinebench, the score is 400 points... Yes, its that bad. A Mac processor at 2 GHz beat mine.
I wasn't sure what it was; I had taken apart the PC, dusted everything, reseated the cooler, and applied new thermal paste, but now I'm certain that the CPU is not behaving the way it used to and fear it might be done.
Its not being thermal throttled either. Its doing pretty well under load (60-70 degrees in Cinebench). But the performance is so bad. It takes more than 10 minutes to complete a cinebench test. Im not sure what else to say. Is my CPU dying?
My mobo is a Strix Z390F; I haven't updated BIOS since I bought it due to fear of bricking it. Im planning to do it soon once I get a USB stick, but I fear the damage is already done...
Its progressively getting worse too. It used to be a small stutter; now its full of freezes, and games run like a PowerPoint presentation. Im also not sure if this is related, but shutting down my PC takes around 10 minutes. Ill click shutdown or restart, and itll have the little blue spinning dots with the text "shutting down". Sometimes i just flick the psu off to get it to stop.
What can I do to fix this if it is not the CPU dying? How can I be sure what the issue is?
Thanks 😊
