Is my CPU malfunctioning?

Hello!

I've running a rig that's about three years old. Specs are:

i5-4670K (With NH-D14 Noctua cooler)
GTX 780-TI (Stock-cooler)
Z87-PRO Motherboard (I think)
16GB Ram

So my concern - Lately my rig have been crashing alot, sometimes not even starting. Some symptoms are the screen just freezing with random pixel-squares on it, another symptom is that I can't even run simple games like Terraria without lagging. I checked task management, and how much percentage my CPU was running at while playing games, and it was staying stable at 97-100%. Temperatures meanwhile was at 40 degrees Celsius. Not sure if this is normal or not, and it might be something else that's malfunctioning. I also suspect it's me still running windows 8 - not sure though. But my rig wont upgrade to 8.1 for some weird reason.

If anyone have a slightest idea about what is going on with my rig I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

1. Those temps are very low for fill load even on the Noc. However as every game is different, I'd suggest running a standard application based benchmark such as RoG Real bench and using the HWiNFO monitoring program to record core temps, core voltages, and voltage on the 3.3, 5.0 and 12.0 volt rails.

2, When you crash, the STOP error code will provide a clue as to what caused it.

3. What is Event Viewer saying happened at the times that you experienced these problems ?

That sounds like a graphical issue.

Try using DDU to completely uninstall your display drivers (Display Driver uninstaller)
Reinstall the latest drivers again.

You should have asked him to list it. It's blatantly obvious that he was using one because he's describing an error that happens during operations...which require a power supply.

Be direct with your answers/questions instead of giving him a hard time.
