Is my CPU running too hot?

I have a Phenom x4 965 BE at stock (3.4) and stock Vcore (1.37). It's running idle 48-50, web browsing 52-54, and gaming it's around 60-70 (core temp says my max was 70c). Is this ok or no?

I've tried removing the stock cooler and using one of the best coolers Evo 212, and it's still has the same temps as my stock cooler. I just got this chip used from ebay yesterday, is it possible it's just not good?

70c is not a problem. If that's the hottest it got, you are doing ok.

The max temp a PhII should ever run at is about 58C-63C... typically past that point they become unstable and crash... occasionally they're ok a little higher (65C), it depends on the cpu.

ALSO phII cpus were the first AMD cpus without a physical thermometer to measure core temp. as a result they typically could be as much as 20C +/- off of the "actual" core temp. one of the things overclockers would do is overclock their phII till it gave a temp related crash, marked the temp it happened at and called that "62" C then adjusted the temps by paper accordingly

So, while they're right, you're ok. Just know your PhII does not report it's temps right because PHII cpus can't run at that temp. If your pc ever shuts down like the plug was pulled without a blue screen, then you hit your temp max, and you'll have a good idea of how off your cpu temp thermometer is.
