[SOLVED] Is my cpu temperature too low or have I used too much thermal paste?

Hey,

I'm wondering, since I just changed my thermal paste for the first time (the paste before this one was applied 3 years ago when I bought my PC). I bought the Artic MX-4 Thermal paste. I removed the cooler, cleaned the CPU from the last thermal paste and applied the new one. I saw different ways of applying it so I applied it drawing an X with it. I used around 1g maybe a bit more and it could've slipped down but I don't know if it can do any damage if it slipped to the bottom side of the cpu (although it could've not slipped too much).

If I screwed up I'll remove the paste and add the new one but less paste.

A rice sized drop in the center will spread out under heat and pressure.
The effect of too much paste is to RAISE temperatures, not lower it.
The purpose of paste is to fill in microscopic pits in the mating surfaces that can trap air.
Paste is a better heat conductor than air.
But paste is not as good as metal to metal contact.

What is your processor?
What are your idle temperatures?
10-15c. over ambient is good.

Idle temperature was around 35
Currently playing Call of Duty Warzone and the temperature is a little over 60 while playing

it was around 10 over ambient, it was a bit colder in my room when I calculated the temperature of the CPU which means it is good then.

I'm just worried for that slipping over the sides, can it do damage overtime even if it slipped a bit

MX-4 is non conductive.
The most will happen is you get the mess on the motherboard.
Which will be ugly but not detrimental.
If that happens clean it very carefully.

Thank you very much, I'll clean up my mess, just don't want to end up replacing a new CPU

thermal paste usually will not conduct electricity, if you use too much it just squishes out and gets on your motherboard and makes a mess. it is sticky and dust might stick to it. The dust however can conduct electricity. guess it depends on how much mess it made as to if you want to clean it up again.
