Is my existing computer going to bottlneck a 4870/4890 or GTX260/275?

Hey guys I'm just wondering about putting a 4870/4890 or 260/275 in my existing computer. Would the rest of my computer be a bottleneck? I am looking (obviously) for more gaming power as I can not run games like Farcry 2 at 1440x900 highest quality with AA/AF.

Existing system specs:

E8400
G.Skill PC2-8000
HD 4850
WD Caviar 640gb SE16
OCZ StealthXstream

as long as the ocz stealthxstream is greater than 500W you should be fine.

No, e8400 is a great processor, how much ram do you have though?

He's talking about GFX Card, not CPU hosainh.

Having a greater than 500w psu will run the 4870's and 260's. 600w+ for the 275.

But, a 600w is recommended on the 4870 and gtx 260 if you have it.

Your E8400 will run on most new cards today. but, a 4870 is fine, as to not knowing which stealthxstream you have, I can't really tell you to jump up and get it.

if its the 600w/700w, then your fine.

Sorry, it was really early in the morning when I posted this so I was a bit out of it.

I've got 4 gigs of the ram and the 600w StealthxStream.

So you guys are saying my 600w StealthxStream wouldn't run a GTX 275/80 or a 4890?

Your PSU would be fine running those cards. Your CPU is one of the best gaming CPU's out, but you might think about buying an aftermarket heatsink to overclock it. That CPU gets to around 4ghz pretty easy, but that will of course depend on the motherboard you have as well.

I'm using a Gigabyte EP45-DS3R motherboard.

I've got an OCZ Vendetta 2 heatsink installed and I'm getting like 55c peaks with the processor all stock. I think I may have applied the thermal paste wrong but I'm going to leave that for another post in the CPU section.

Alright, since my PSU can run a 275/4890 I'm having trouble deciding between the two... in most benchmarks it looks like the 4890 outperforms the 275 (at 1650x1050, which is the closest to my monitors 1440x900), but just by a little margin and the 275 runs cooler and uses less energy. I don't plan on crossfiring (even though my mobo supports it), so I'm not going to choose ATI over Nvidia because of that. It also seems the 275 handles AA better. The price difference is virtually nothing ($10) so that's not a factor. Which should I go for?

From what I read the 275 runs much hotter but is more quiet. In load it reaches I think it was near 90 degrees, whereas the 4890 is louder but is more cool. I forgot what temperature. If you're into overclocking the 4890 has alot of headroom. I'm sure you could find a 4890 for a bit more than $10 cheaper as well..

Before making your decision read up a couple more reviews on both gfx cards since it seems what you read is a bit biased..
