I've an older Buffalo NAS drive that's powered by its own plug. I took it out of it's enclosure, used an adapter to connect via USB to the back of my PC, there was a burning smell, I unplugged it quickly, then tried putting it into my PC, I had an extra storage bay, I used the cables from my CD drive in hopes it would power the NAS up, it didn't.
So I'm wondering, is the drive fried?
