Looking to upgrade my processor but im new to the whole thing. I have read that I might need to do a bios update for it to be compatible, will this work or do I need a new motherboard entirely?

Most (if not all) of the major motherboard manufacturers supply CPU Support Lists for each motherboard they make on the motherboard's support web page, These lists detail what processors are supported by what BIOS version is required in order to support them.

The CPU Support List for your motherboard (as already stated by WildCard999) only supports the 6th and 7th generations of Intel Core I-Series processors.

B365 Chipset would be a good choice for that CPU. You need a Socket 1151 300-series chipset.

The B365 would not need a BIOS update to use that CPU, but a B360 may need a BIOS update with a different CPU before a Core i5-9400F would work.

If I were to buy this motherboard, would I be able to swap all the components just fine? like would there be any compatibility issues? Or am I better off keeping my motherboard and just putting a i5 6600k or something in it? My specs are below
gigabyte GA-h110m-a
Intel Pentium G4520
G.SKILL Value DDR4 2133 C15 2x4GB
Nvidia GTX 1050-Ti
