Is my GPU causing system freezes?

Hello,

about a year ago I have purchased a GTX 970 and a bit sooner than that I bought a Corsair VS550 PSU (I know it's not very good now). Now, like a month ago my system started to freeze for about a half second and then it just runs normally, which isn't even annoying, but it had me worried that one of my components might be faulty.

3 days ago I upgraded my CPU and MB and the freezes still occur sometimes, so I know for certain the CPU was not faulty.

Do you think it might be the GPU causing it? When I'm playing a video or something the sound kind of freaks out during the freeze. Or is it the PSU? (I hope so, since I'm getting a new one soon) From what I read on the internet, this looks like a case of unstable voltage. If that is the case, is there any chance my components can get damaged?

Since everything is still in warranty I want to get this sorted out, hopefully by just getting a free repair.

Full specifiations:
Intel Core i5 4590 (before upgrade FX 6300)
MSI PC Mate G41 B85 chipset (before upgrade ASUS M5A99X)
MSI GTX 970 (before that Radeon 7750 and GTX 770 for about 2 days)
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200
Kingston Fury SSD
Gelid Tranquillo rev.2 CPU cooler
Kingston Fury 8GB 1600MHz RAM

Or could it also be software?

If you need any more info I will be happy to provide it, if I know it.
Thank you.

Missed one thing. SSD issue is very likely too. If you can boot and use a live Linux from a DVD or Pendrive without the freeze you said the OS loaded SSD probably faulty.
Since you have i5 4590 CPU you should try running your PC on Intel IGP to rule out it is not the GTX 970 issue (remove GTX970). If that fails you may try another RAM on your PC. If the problem still persists you need to try a different PSU.

Oops, I selected your answer as best solitution by mistake, but apologizing for that does not really make sense, right? :) I'm going to try the IGP, but as I said, I got the CPU 3 days ago, so I haven't really had time to try it yet. But removing the GPU will decrease the load on the PSU by over 50%, so it may stop doing it even if it's a PSU fault.

No problem you can click "Unselect current solution" if I didnt helped you fully 😉.

I asked you to try Intel IGP because to rule out its not the GTX970 causing the freeze issue and need to try out one by one and yes you can do so without removing the GPU if your system supports so, its been a long time I used an IGP based system. Also do note my second post regarding possible SSD issue. I am saying so because of my own experience of occasional system freeze and BSOD and ultimately it was an issue with my Intel SSD and had to RMA it.
