Solution
Yes a GTX 1060 is good for gaming.

You connect your monitor to one of the digital display outputs (HDMI, DVI-D, Display Port) on the GPU, not your motherboard.

You did not mention a price.

Overclocking a GTX 1060 is not necessary, but can sometimes be beneficial.

You will need to make sure your build can handle it. What is your power supply? CPU? RAM?
Its a good GPU for 1080p gaming assuming your CPU can properly utilize it. The rest of your specs?

Your display cable should go from the GPU to the monitor. Using one of the ports on the motherboard will only utilize the iGPU in your CPU.

That depends on what you payed for it. It is usually a very good card in terms of price to performance ratio.

I overclock my 1060. However this will depend on how you answer my first question. If your CPU cannot fully utilize a 1060 in the games you want to play then overclocking the 1060 will do nothing for you.
