Hi everyone,

PC Specs:
CPU: i5 3570k 3.4Ghz
GPU: Zotac GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme
RAM: 16GB RAM
PSU: Corsair Vengeance 650W
Motherboard: b75ma-p45

I have noticed that my ''Zotac GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme'' was a bit less powerful than usual.
I have compared my Benchmark results with someone else on youtube
(this guy> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiNgkoFam0s&ab_channel=EK2)
and I sometimes got 10-20 fps less.....why is that?

I also did the benchmark in windowed mode and checked cpu and ram usage while doing the benchmark. The Benchmark used 60%-96% CPU usage. I doubt that the cpu is the problem. Is it maybe my Motherboard is there a bottleneck somehow?...

Solution
Depends on game engine and how AA is implemented, and Doom isnt a dodgy console port so is probably well optimised. You can carry on looking for reasons but its your CPU honestly.
Your CPU wont bottleneck a 970 I doubt, so that should be fine, and the motherboard doesnt have much to do with it, but if your CPU usage is at 96% then that suggests bottleneck. Your GPU should be at 90-100% usage but CPU should be lower. If CPU usage is higher then it cant keep up.

Am surprised it bottlenecks a 970 though.

Eehhmmm.... 1070...not 970... :)

Lol sorry, been reading too many threads. Ok totally reverse my answer and take everything I said the opposite way..

What you are probably seeing is classic bottleneck. To make sure, check your CPU usage when in a GPU demanding game or stress test. If it is at or close to 100% and your GPU usage is lower then you have your answer.

You have semi answered that already, but didnt mention what GPU usage was at the time. The next gen i5 bottlenecks, but your CPU isnt on the Tom's Hardware chart. If the i5 4690k cant handle a 1070, a previous gen i5 will be worse.. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EQOWVLxk0DOFXKfzCmz9lEZ-qpMb7mIvt8KUYek69A8/edit#gid=0

Yeah I also think its a bit of a bottleneck in cpu intensive games. Because in DOOM I get my 120+fps like 90% of the time at max and it doesn't use much of the cpu as expected xD

The GPU Usage in GTA 5 is ......well.....at almost max settings around 50% with about 70fps average... BUT! But if I crank up the MSAA to 8x it uses 97%-99% of the GPU. Why does it use 50% for resolution only? It's the cpu isnt it?
I only have this problem with GTA 5...well...I didnt test many games because I just got the card last week :)

After playing GTA 5 for a bit. You can see that the GPU is using 96%-99% later on the ''GPU Load'' because I turned MSAA to 8x (was 0x before)

So....should I get a new CPU to solve the issue? Because if so, I'll probably have to get a new Motherboard as well to make it compatible with newer/better CPU's...

Yeah GTA AA is pretty intensive. Nobody ever likes hearing they have bottleneck or need to get new hardware but if you want to get the most out of your GPU that's the truth. The plus side is it's because you have a badass GPU and it'd be a shame to leave it sitting there without being used to its full potential!

At the end of the day you have a 3rd Gen i5 and Intel are just about to release the 7th gen chips (you have a great-great grandfather lol). That kind of puts it in perspective. Even if you dropped an i7 3770k into your board I cant say it'd quite be enough, so an upgraded board/CPU may be a good idea, but it'd certainly be an improvement if that isnt realistic right now.

Heres a list of CPU's compatible with your board anyway. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B75MA-P45.html#support-cpu

Thanks but...DOOM is confusing me really hard right now. when I'm changing the Anti Aliasing from OFF(lowest) to TSSAA (8TX)(highest) the fps stays the same while the CPU is at 50%-60%...so its not maxed out the CPU at all.....why? dafuq is going on? My gpu uses only 98%-99% of its power when using full AA or higher resolution? thats ridiculous!

Ok, I believe you! Last question! I promise 😀

What do u think of these stats in these images and Is it a bottleneck even if its at 90% cpu usage?
