i have a nvidia gtx 760 for about 3 and a half years and until yesteday it ran perfectly. I was playing wow, wasting time, and suddenly a big fps drop followed by a frozen screen and some artifacts. i tried switching the pc off and the screen went black, this time with big white square artifacts. It restarted and stayed on,like normal for about 30 secs than proceeded to repeat this cycle indefinetly. i now write this using a spare gt630 and the pc runs fine. can it also be the psu beside the gpu at fault here?

edit* i filmed the whole situation (excuse the quality) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2RrkrThxv8&feature=youtu.be
edit2* thanx all for help, but today my rx 580 arrived and the pc lives once again and my depression disappeared as well

Solution
Its probably the GPU at fault. Artifacting is never a good sign.

I would try it in another pc just to be sure, if it behaves the same, might be worth trying to bake it - could give it another lease of life.

Please follow these steps :-

> Make sure your temperature is normal. If not then :-
> Pull out the GPU and open its case to clean out the heat sink and apply thermal paste on GPU chip after cleaning it.
> Thermal pads also should be fine ( not broken or dried which often happen due to GPU age, being old enough etc. )
> Clean the PCI-E express slot and GPU rear monitor I/O connectors before reinstalling GPU on motherboard.
> Keep the refresh rate to normal.
> Make sure your monitor & Cable is fine via connecting another PC or source signal in it.
> Driver should be updates and should not be BETA version.Make sure you have no prior driver or its registry files left in your system before Installing new driver. Use "IObit UNINSTALLER" software for power clean every single file.

Note:- Most common reason for that is Clogged heat-sink/overheating/overclocking/Dust in slots/ bulged capacitors and last and the least dry solder PCB or due to overclocking chip issue .

Note:-Baking a GPU is not a professional way to revive your GPU because in that case you also bake other chips and capacitors too which is not good at all.Excessive heat can damage other components too by shortening them because most of chips are ball grid array types.

> : Better to use hot Air Gun.

I have revived/solved almost 8 GPU's till now.

Might be worth baking it to bring back to life. Make sure you remove all the heatsink/fan, and use new thermal paste when you put it back together.

It's only a temp fix however most die again after 2-6 months and then it's over.

i always keep the pc clean and the card, since it is air-cooled,at least twice a month i blow all the dust and clean the air filters, so dirt is not a problem. i replaced the thermal compound in january. I also did a clean windows and drivers install on my ssd wich i also used in the donor pc to test it. The same issue, it runs for 20-30 secs after the os loads then either restarts or freezes. When it freezes, i also get some bios error and i need to reset it.

> Is that a motherboard or GPU bios error ?.

> Is your Bios up to date or not a beta version ?

You can attach the screenshot of that error if you can.

One should have great knowledge of how to properly and professional fix the issue and I bet doing in a professional way will definitely give you years to play with it.

motherboard error. it is a gigabyte fxa-ud5 with the 3.0 bios version. the error says that the main bios is corupted and that it will recover from the back-up bios. never seen that until this god-damn gpu decided to act funny
