is my graphics card supposed to get this hot?

i have an xfx rx480 gtr black edition at stock settings and am playing a game like modern warfare remasters on everything turned at ultra and it gets 89 degrees .

no. I have that card. yours is doing something wrong. make sure the fans are hooked up. they pop off of the cooler with those detachable brackets. just make sure they are spinning.

also you can set a higher fan profile in wattman.

I have this card I never get above 60C

well same , like skyrim on ultra plus lots of mods never gets above 50 but modern warfare remastered is much more graphically demandiing, i looked a gtx 1070 gameplay and it also peeked 85 degrees .

I could run the 480 black edition on fur mark for an hour and It would not hit 90C. your fan profiles for that game are not ramping up. you need to go into gaming settings select modern warfare and set a custom fan curve that's higher than what it is now. or just update drivers. something is keeping your gpu from ramping fan speeds up.
