Is my GTX 285 bad?

Hi Everyone:

I am bummin. I built a decent gaming system in Feb 2009. I have a gtx 285 and it is starting to give me real problems running 3D games. It was not bad at first but now I crash every time I run Fallout 3 or Call of Duty WaW. The screen gets little dots all over the screen that sometimes form along the shapes of on screen objects. It also flickers part of my desktop at times. Then the screen goes black and it is locked up. I have to restart. I will try and attach some screen shots. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Do you know if the card is bad? I have the latest video drivers, DX and chipset drivers. I have tried reseating the card also.

It is very probable that the card is on its way out. However, did you check the temperature of the card when under stress? An overheating problem may be the culprit of this.

Not from Newegg anymore. I am currently working through a trouble ticket with XFX. I will be so mad if my $380 card is not still covered 3 months after purchase. Time will tell.

90 days? I hope so, XFX has a pretty good warranty.

I have never bought from XFX so I will give them the benefit of the doubt at this point (famous last words.)

I have not overclocked anything on my machine. My temps run cool and my PSU is CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W ATX12V 2.2.

Sounds like you are just one of the unlucky few who get a bad card. RMA it, but do not forget to register with XFX for that lovely warranty.

Good news, so far... I got an RMA and sent it back. Their test results= FAILURE. I am waiting to find out if I get a new card or just refurbed. So far XFX has been fast and good. At this point, I would highly recommend them due to their excellent customer service dept.

Recieved card today. It is a refurb, which I think sucks. But at least they were quick about getting me a replacement card. Great customer support. Thanks for the input everyone.
