Is my gtx970 connected properly

So I recently installed a gtx970 on my computer, however my psu only seemed to have one 8-pin connector, which was in use by the cpu, so I bought a 6+2 pin to 8-pin cable and plugged the 6-pin into my psu and the 8-pin into the graphics card.
However isnt it so that the 6-pin only provides 75W? If so how do I connect my card properly?

PSU is Coolermaster Realpower 620W (80 plus)

it comes with a CPU power connector x8 and a PCI-E x8 (1) and PCI-E x6 (2).

Something is missing here (or cables), which GTX 970 you have?

The Asus Strix gtx970, I assume the pci-e 8-pin comes with the bundle of wires directly from the psu and not modular, in which case it isn't there for some reason, Ive followed all the wires and I can't for the life of me find the second 8-pin. I bought it second hand so is it possible that it was removed?

I might also add that my computer did start (with 2 beeps instead of the normal 1), however there were severe glitches in that there was a trailing effect on moving windows, remnants of closed windows on the home page and the cursor itself flickered and suffered from horizontal tearing if moved.
Not sure if this is positive or negative.

You're plugging an aftermarket cable directly between the PSU pci express 6 pin yellow socket & the GPU??

I suggest you unplug it straight away mate , you'll burn both the PSU & GPU doing that.

The modular cables that you don't have are not a standard pinout .
If you don't have the original modular cables for the PSU you need a new one.
