So for some reason this morning, my icons decided to show up as blank thumbnails for files, and I'm having a hard time access my files from a certain drive. I figured I'd run a test using seagate's tools, and sometimes it would succeed and fail the short dst test (haven't tried the long one yet) but it passed the smart test. So I decided to look at the connections to my computer and the power and sata cords were in place as usual. I didn't install anything recently that could have cause this and the only thing I could think of is the recent Windows 10 update, but I'm not too sure since my hard drive is acting strange in the first place. Here's an example of what my icons look like, before there would be thumbnail images, and this is in another drive on my computer that runs fine. Below are my system specs, again I bought this drive around 6 months ago and never had problems with it.

I regret to inform you, but that really sounds like a defective hard drive. But if you havent dropped it, i find it very strange that it just died after only 6 months of use. Which hard drive is it?

What exactly do you mean by "I'm having a hard time access my files"?
Can you or can't you see the files on the drive listed in File Explorer (as in your example), can you not open all or some of them, are they slow to open, or what?

Disappearing icons could be a problem with the drive but there are other possible reasons. Such as the program which usually opens them is no longer available. Do you get an error message when you try to open a file with no icon?
