I bought a alienware 15R3 with the i5 6300HQ GTX 1060 and all the videos and posts I've seen only a few say the i5 bottlenecks the GPU in "some"games.
I have has issues with this laptop going into 100% CPU usage and the 1060 staying at 60-70% which obviously should be the other way around.
I've asked Dell for assistance and I of course like most people i go through tech support, countless remote diagnostics, reinstalled windows 5x,all drivers, even had the on-site technician come and replace the motherboard and HDD and still all he same proformance exists.
They try to do everything all over again after 3 weeks of going though this nonsense.
I even had a Dell support technician tell me it's a bad pair up over the phone.
The on-site technician so also agreed with this so...must be true and people that test this model on YouTube or wherever must be fan boys or won't bash this system for whatever reason it may be.
I honestly can not recommend this laptop it's a garbage configuration.
Everyone should just go for the i7 version instead of saving the extra $150 it's not worth the savings and then when you go to sell it in the future honestly not many people will want it because of the i5 so you'll have to sell it dirt cheap.
It sounds like you have a different brand but we're having the same issues and everyone with this problem should definitely complain about it.
They should not be pairing up a GTX 1060 with a i5 6300HQ when that processor was paired years ago with a GTX 950m,960m, and I believe the highest was a 970m so to put that CPU with a newer much much faster GTX 1060 isn't right because it does bottleneck in some games again most AAA non fps games it seems like in my case.
On high, ultra and or a mix of both with ambient occlusion off and shadows mid to high.
Settings definitely depend on the game.
Let's put it this way I have a Razer blade V4 with a i7 6700HQ and a GTX 970m 6gb.
I put them on a side by side comparison and guess what there's literally no difference in a few games I tested which is very odd.
1.Ghost recon
2.The division
3.GTA 5
4.World of Warcraft..I know right
5.Wolfenstein 2
6.Skyrim SE with some mods (30 or so)
Just to name a few off the top of my head.
They shouldn't make a i5 GTX 1060 configuration on a laptop.
On a desktop sure.
I feel it's definitely causing bottleneck and I for one am in the middle of a dispute against them to get a refund or exchange.
I'm sure everyone knows how "great" Dell (all) support is...
