Is my i7 960 causing a bottleneck for my GPU?

Hi, I recently upgraded my GPU from a 5770 to a R9 270x. I was surprised I wasn't getting 60 fps in the game The Secret World with my upgrade. Could this be caused by my I7 960 CPU? Can I overclock the CPU to ease the bottleneck or would I be better off getting a new cpu/mobo (an if so, what would a good budget combo be?)

Solution
yes you can overclock that cpu and it will increase performance alot, go into bios and overclock the multipler and get it to atleast 4ghz, that will improve your cpu as much as a modern i5 literally so this will not bottleneck your system

check youtube for some overclocking step by step guides for your specific motherboard, i will add though the 270x is not exactly a high end card, it is just a mid range card so you wont see huge fps in games, still clocking your cpu is bound to help.
First Download MSI Afterburner and set it up to monitor your gpu usage,
if the gpu usage is going up and down from 50 to 99, and its not hitting 99% constantly then yes your cpu is holding
the gpu back.

Thanks! I was under the impression it was a little more powerful than it is. That seems to be the issue, I'll attempt to overclock and hopefully that will help but I'm glad I don't need a new cpu/mobo!
