Hey all

Yesterday I got myself a palit 3070 gamingpro.

I spend like 6 hours installing and testing some games, unfortunately I'm not that happy with the results.

I was following this
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB09B8hRBWg&t=141s
in order to see a proper comparison, I know that the CPU used in this video is much better than I have and its more recent compared to my 5 year old CPU

this is my spec of my pc:

Intel i7 6700 Skylake CPU
Asrock Z170 Pro 4S Motherboard
Kingston Hyper X Fury 16GB DDR4 Ram [HK2]
Palit 3070 Gaming Pro
Seagate 1TB HDD 7200rpm
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD
850W Hummer PSU 80+ Certified & Modular
Powerwalker VI850 SE/UK (IEC) UPS

the games that I have tested and compared with the video are

Need for speed payback: the video show that game was running at average of 125 fps, but on my pc it was running between 70 - 90 fps - 1440p ultra settings

The Witcher 3: Video Average fps 111: My pc fps 80-95 - 1440p ultra settings

Mafia Definite Ed: Video Average fps 78 fps - my pc 48-70 fps - 1440p ultra settings

More games tested not in video

Genshin impact, 50-60 fps 1440p High settings

wastelands 3, 45-60 fps 1440p Ultra

Blackdesert, 70-100 fps remaster

I would appreciate any help on this, should I upgrade a new CPU and a motherboard or should I wait for newer titles?

Thanks,

Yes your i7 6700 is most likely bottlenecking your cpu, that cpu lacks cores (vs 6 cores of modern ryzen and intel cpus) and not great ipc, try running the game and checking cpu usage, if it's at around 90% or more it's definitely a cpu bottleneck, wait and see ryzen 5000 series and if amd's claims are true then go with a 3600 or something like that.

I definitely would not risk that gpu on such a low quality psu. That’s an immediate upgrade needed. I am not surprised by your performance, 4 core 8 thread has gone from being high end to entry i3 level for gaming. The sweet spot today is 6 core 12 thread or higher.

Just upgrade to a 5600x when that comes out is my reccomendation, while you wait maybe your motherboard supports baseclock overclocking since skylake is overclockable via baseclock so you will problably get pretty decent overclock with baseclock oc which may help you wait till ryzen 5000 launches

Ive got an i7 6700K 4 gig, and a GTX 1080 ti. The game I play that I do not get 144 FPS at 1080 on Ultra settings is GTAV.

Am I running into a CPU bottleneck?
