Hi I'm looking for a new RAM set and I saw ddr4 RAM isn't much more expensive now can anybody tell me if I buy a 16gb ddr4 RAM set will it hr compatible with my Asus z97-p motherboard or will I have yo go for some ddr3 RAM? Thanks.

the only motherboards that are compatible with ddr3 that support ddr4 are the intel skylake desktop and skylake mobile motherboards because intel skylake cpu's have a ddr4/ddr3 IMC, but even with skylake you have to have a ram slot capable of supporting ddr3 on the skylake desktop motherboards and it can only be ddr3 1600L. skylake mobile platform on the other had can support both types of ddr3 and ddr4 ram using the same ram slot which is called a uni-dimm slot, but again that too can only support ddr3 1600L. your z97 desktop motherboard isn't nor will there ever be support for ddr4 for the haswell socket form factor because the IMC controller supports ddr3 only. if you want to upgrade to ddr4 then you need a intel Z100 chipset...

Don't forget the X99 socket 2011 v3 mobos that have been out for quite awhile now, they were the first to run DDR4 😉
