I just finished building my first PC, but when I first powered it on, it turned off after a few seconds. So I decided to start removing components one by one to try to figure out what the problem was. After I removed the M.2 ssd it booted up and went into BIOS. Is my MOBO not compatible with this M.2?

Solution
I wouldn't say that. I have an M.2 in the drive just below the GPU slot.
Try the slot that is below the CPU if so.
Also, try moving your sata drive to another port, as the M.2 functionality disables one of the sata ports. Not sure if that means any unused, or a specific one.
