Is my monitor compatible with MSI GTX 1080?

I own a 231TE4LB/00 Philips (1920x1080, 60Hz) monitor and want to get the MSI GTX 1080 gpu for my new build. According to the monitor's manual it supports 1.4a HDMI (although it says HDMI 1 on the back - I figure that's common) so my question is, will the GPU be compatible with an HDMI cable and if yes, what kind of cable do I need exactly? Because there are so many and I didn't need to do research about this in the past.

Solution
Yeah, that monitor will work fine and you just need a HDMI cable, nothing fancy.

But you need to get a new monitor as you will be wasting performance and money on the 1080. The monitor is 60hz, so that means it will only get you 60fps, not matter how many fps the GPU can push, the monitor can only show 60. So you should look at a 144hz monitor, or go with a 1060/580 and save some money.

I will be looking for a new one but just not right now. GPU's are cheap right now and thought that I'd be a better purchase to get the gtx 1080 now and get a new 144Hz monitor later, as they're expensive and I don't get any indications that their price is going down soon.

What graphics card do you have now? Logically - You'd be better of using your preexisting graphics card (if possible), then purchase a new GPU and Monitor (at the same time) to ensure optimal performance. You could potentially purchase a GTX 1080 now, then a few months down the road find a game you want to play, then purchase the monitor only to find out the GTX 1080 cannot output enough FPS to match your new monitor's refresh rate.

Unfortunately I have a Toshiba Satellite L775 laptop right now with the Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 and I'm building a desktop, so I don't have anything to work with.
