Is my motherboard compatible with a GTX 1070/1080?

I've got the LGA 1155 socket and my friend told me that since it's 1151 it wouldn't work? 🙁 I'd like to upgrade just gpu, since my cpu seems to be doing just fine the past 4 years.

Specs: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3901 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
16 gb corsair ram

My psu is relatively beastly. If the 1070/80 is compatible will the 3770 bottleneck it?

Thanks for the help!

If you are pertaining to physical compatibility, then, yes. Your motherboard should have a PCIe2.0 x16 slot where you can fit a GTX 1070/1080 that has a PCIe3.0 x16 interface. The PCIe versions 2.0 and 3.0 are backward-compatible. Though the 2.0 is slower, you won't see noticeable performance difference using either on such GPUs. I'd be more concerned with the GPU model you will select if it will fit in your case.

In terms of performance compatibility, as you have mentioned bottlenecking, both the GTX 1070 and the GTX 1080 would have a higher chance of reaching its maximum possible performance (i.e., no bottlenecks) pairing it with your i7-3770K - except only in selected very CPU-demanding games, which can be...

Thanks for the reply. Are you stating in the second paragraph that my I7-3770 is actually well suited for the the mentioned graphics cards? It won't bottleneck unless it's very specific games basically? I mostly play MOBA's and MMO's. If I recall MMO's are CPU heavy generally? I will check the links out now. Thanks.

UPDATE: Nevermind, answered my follow up by looking at your links! Thanks again.
