So I have received an ASUS Z170-AR motherboard as a gift months ago, I had been meaning to upgrade my computer for a while before that and had a list of parts that I was going to use on a wishlist.
Since making that wishlist the i7-7700K has been released and I would love to buy it but I've seen multiple people say I might need a BIOS update. Some people say that you need a Skylake CPU to update the BIOS which I don't have but some people have mentioned that you can do this on similar Z170 motherboards: http://event.asus.com/2012/mb/USB_BIOS_Flashback_GUIDE/
Is this, or any other method not requiring a Skylake, possible or not? I simply don't have access to a Skylake CPU, if I need one then I'll just have to buy the 6700K but I thought I would check here first.

Thats right it will need a BIOS update since that CPU is a Kaby Lake. And the only way you can update the BIOS is with a Skylake

The mobo has to support flashback bios to use it. If you want to use that CPU.

A B250, Z270, H270 mobo would be more compatible with a Kaby Lake

Your mobo does support USB BIOS flash back tho. But it's a header on the mobo. You have to buy a module / adapter to use it (I think)
