Is my onboard audio my limiting oc'ing factor??

Well, currently I'm using the onboard audio as my sound card since, my old one(s) are ISA based and my mobo doesn't have any ISA slots 🙁. I hear that AC97 onboard audio can hinder the overclocking potential. Is this correct? I can only get up to 153FSB which is good but I know I can squeeze a little more out of it.

Btw I'm using PC3000 memory so that shouldn't be a problem.

yes, thats true. AC97 audio does fail at higher FSBs, I guess its concerned with the PCI bus on which it runs, but even the IDE controller also has the same problem, although newer controllers do work at higher speeds.

On my Jetway 911BF board, setting the FSB speed to 75 MHz (for Celeron 700 MHz) renders audio useless!

The best bet is to simply disable the onboard AC97 audio and get a good external PCI audio controller card, even a Creative PCI128 Vibra is a very good and cheap option to AC97!
