Is my pc working as well as It should be? low gpu usage + lower than optimal fps

Hey everybody. I got my brand new gaming pc few days ago, and I've been testing it and running games since. I have a gigabyte gtx 1070 g1 and an i5 7600k (not OC), with a 144hz 1080p monitor, and 8 x2 gb ram (16 gb total).

For full specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nsDxQV

Now I know gtx 1070 is a complete overkill for these games, but I opened my testing season with two of my fav games: League of legends and CS:GO.

On cs:go I get something like ~300 fps with settings maxed out, which I guess is normal, isn't it? No complains here.
What concerns me more though, is league of legends. When I first opened the game today and played a normal game to test out my new pc, I discovered I only get around 150 fps, and fps count can go all the way down to 100 in fights or any other complicated rendering images.

I tried putting my nvida power options to "prefer performance" over "optimal" (which is default for me), still no results.

In both games I have setting all maxed out, and vsync disables of course.. I've looked online in youtube and saw some testing people made on league who got way more fps than I normally get which is rather odd and worrying to me.

So naturally I wanted to dig in and find the reason my fps is lower than expected (and lower than gtx 1070 tests I've seen on youtube) so I downloaded MSI afterburner and saw that the gpu usage is very low (around 20-30%). It's really wierd... My gpu usage in league of legends is so low, that my fps sometimes drops lower than 144fps on a 144hz monitor! It's rediclous man..

league is such a low demanding game and my gpu doesn't want to give what it's got. 😀 resulting in a lower fps. On the other hand I guess that's just the game, because I've seen some streamers who use titanX's for their graphic card who also get between 100-200 fps in league (while streaming). I completly uninstalled the xbox thingy on windows 10 so that can't be the reason.

What worries me is that the fps in an "easy" low requiring game like league is that low, will it even be able to run more demanding games like battlefield fallout gta etc..? The reason I'm asking (or panicking) over this is that I just want to make sure that my expensive S pc isn't faulty and that everything is working as well as it should. It's my first ever PC build so I might be worried for nothing.. I mean, I wouldn't want my hard-earned money to be spent on a faulty pc so better make sure everything is in order..

I probably sound a bit nooby, which I kinda am, but I'll appreciate some help from more experienced people. If you have the rig I have ( or really anyhing with the gtx 1070 and i5 7600k or 6600k and 16gb ram) please share your pc performance in these games so I know if it's normal or not...

Thank you so much for your time!

Hello Yoav ,

In a nutshell, all is well with your PC.
Yes, CS:GO performance is all good .

And regarding League of legends, the FPS counts decreases when there are multiple units and heavy onscreen action (say spells are casts and special effects happen in multitude). Nothing to worry about that.

Regarding the GPU utilization, it is normal as well. I checked the game qith my 1060 GTX 6GB and I too see GPU utilization at 30%-35%. The game is not that graphics intensive and as long as you don't get freezes or lags continuously, don't worry brother. :)

Battlefield 1 would just run fine in your rig!

Still doesn't make sense to me though. I have a 144hz 1080p monitor, and due to the low effort of my gpu or cpu or whatever it is, I sometimes get fps drop to about 120 fps which means I'm not utilizing my monitor capablities. Is there any way to get the gpu put a little more effort into it?

Thanks!
