Hi,

I'm pretty sure it is the power supply failing, but just to be sure I will ask before spending unnecessary money.

I am trying to power up this system:

Intel I7-Core 950 (socket 1366)
3x 2 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 (3 channel memory)
3x 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 (3 channel memory)
3x 30 GB SSD
1x 500 GB 7200 RPM
1x CD/DVD rw
2x Geforce GTX 580
1x 60 mm chassis fan
1x 120 mm chassis fan
USB wireless keyboard and mouse

It's a 850 W power supply.

Alright, issue:
I installed the second GPU, which is a big deal, I guess. Booting up was no problem but when trying to load a DVD one of the SSD's failed. It's a raid so I was not able to reboot. I unplugged the DVD reader and booting up was again possible. To test my new hardware I tried out 3DMark but the computer freezes. Tried a few times and I end up with the same result.

I entered my setup in the power supply calculator and got this result. It should (according to this) work but I still have my doubts.

Any thoughts?

Best regards.

What model is your power supply? Other than 850w. The main rail used for the graphics cards+CPU+fans etc is the 12v rail. Not all power supplies deliver their whole capacity on the 12v rail.
Are you able to try another power supply with necessary power? Atleast +700w on the 12v rail would be ideal. (or around 60amps).
Does your system still work with one card after this happend?
-good luck

Well by Corsairs specs the TX 850 should deliver 70amps on the 12v. So it should be sufficient.
Do you happen to have a friend with a similar power supply, or better yet rock up to a store and see if they can help you test your PC with one of their psu's.
Also your PC can bench 3dmark with only 1 card installed?

Going back to old setup works fine with 3DMark.
Unfortunatly I have no friends eho can help me out. However, I will get another 500 W PSU for free. If that doesn't solve my problem I'll post again

Cheers.
