Is my power supply sufficient for a GTX 660?

So on my power supply it says:
AC INPUT: 115/230V-,7A/4A,50-60Hz
DC OUTPUT: 450W

I was wondering if it would be enough for a Nvidia GeForce GTX 660.
My motherboard is an ASUS P5P43TD so would the card even fit? (The mobo has a PCIE 2.0 x16 slot). Is it a good gaming graphics card?

Thank you for reading and for the future answers :)

Yeah, I 'd buy a new PSU. That means you're at 240-250W at load on a PSU that, if tested honestly, was essentially a 288W PSU when it was new. And some of those low-end PSUs test at ridiculously low temperatures, like 25 celsius and sometimes even make up the specs.

There...
1) The PSU should be enough for the GTX660 with no problem.
2) The card will fit in the motherboard.
3) It's quite an old graphic card if you ask me, I would say GTX760 or above is ok for now. But if you already have one GTX660 lying around then it should be still fine for some light gaming.

Hope it helps 😀

On the +12V part it says:
24.0A

I'm not sure about the PCIe connector though...

24A x 12V = 288W

That's not a lot. I doubt it even has the PCIe connector for it. I wouldn't use it with a GTX 660.

There are some cheap power supplies that actually provide enough power for the GTX 660 that won't cost you a whole lot. It would be better than compromising your entire system with a power supply that doesn't isn't cut out for the task.

Thank you for your help 😀
Its fine because I wont be playing any of the newer games really and if that, my monitor only supports 900p so I don't have to worry about 1080p gaming :)

Oh, thats a bummer 🙁
I'll see if I can get a better power supply but I'm just worried about the cables and what to do after I replace the psu and I don't want anything happening to my motherboard. I'm new to building PCs so sorry if I sound like a noob :|

As Volkgren notes, the quality is super important. If it's a 450W with only 288W available in +12V, I can't imagine it's remotely a quality PSU. If this came with a pre-built, it's also no doubt an *old* low-quality PSU and with a GTX 660 capable of going up to 140W or so, this could be very problematic, depending on your CPU.

Yep, this came prebuilt so you're probably right. The CPU is an Intel Core 2 Quad 3.0GHz Q9650 if that changes anything

There are sometimes better quality-than-typical OEM PSUs made by Delta or FSP, but given the distribution on this one, I'd be surprised if this was one of them.

I would not install a GTX 660 without getting a new PSU here. The recommendation above of the Corsair CX 450 (with the black and gray label) is a suitable budget PSU. Not top-end or anything, but won't fry your stuff.

If you get a decent PSU you should be able to play some games on that. Not blazing fast or anything, but you can still play. But first things first, good quality power supply.

These are all good budget options - https://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/fZyFf7,nB3RsY,Q7L7YJ,FdRFf7/

Ill take a look. I just hope they fit my case

Some manufacturers will add up all the different power outputs and call that the max power output simply because their power supply sucks and they're trying to sell it to you.

But good manufacturers will only use the +12V power output in the advertised rating, because that's what is available to your main components.

This is the Corsair CX450's power specs

+3.3V@20A, +5V@20A, +12V@37.4A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3A

Amps x Volts = Watts

As I was saying, the +12V rail is the one that supplies power to your main components such as CPU, GPU, etc.

Oh ok I get it now, thanks

Well it turns out my PSU isn't enough 🙁 I need to buy a better one. Thank you for your help though, ill probably get a 750ti instead as that one sucks less power out

Don't buy the 750 Ti on ebay from China. There is a particular look of GPUs that are being sold on eBay that are counterfeit, they are not the GPU they say they are. They are generic branded and are older GPUs that have the bios modified to say they are a different newer GPU.

Stick to major brands like ASUS, EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI, Zotac, etc. and reputable sellers on eBay.

Thank you for letting me know, I was already aware of that though. The place I wanted to get it from is a second hand tech trade store. I'm afraid my power supply wont be enough for the 750ti either so I'll probably have to buy a new psu first.

How about this PSU?

Would it work?

Nope, even worse than your current one. That's essentially a 216W. And with passive PFC, it's a garbage design from 1997 or so.

Volkgren gave you the least expensive reputable PSU above.
