Question Is my power supply too much?

Specs:
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9400 (2.66 ghz)
RAM: 6 GB
VGA: GT 630 Keppler
MOTHER BOARD: Dell Optiplex 780 (Max ram: 8GB, Max DDR: 2)
PSU: Optiplex 307 watt


I have a really bad system and am not in a position to upgrade financially, I am upgrading to a GTX 550ti, a corsair 550w PSU.
The estimated TDP for the system is about 320 watts. I am worried that a 500 watt PSU will be too much? I already i have the PSU, is there any way that the PSU could hurt the pc? I will be upgrading ram ect later on.

Too much wattage wont hurt pc in any way, only the "Efficiency" and bad PSU. If you look for Corsair go for "Grey label unit" (they are newer production and better than older).

Agreed, too much wattage will not damage the pc. It can hurt efficiency, but a 550w is actually a good pairing with your system.

For a 550w, make sure it is one of the newer grey label cx power supplies. The vs line and old green line arent good.
