[SOLVED] Is my PSU enough for my future upgrade?

Hello guys, i am planning to upgrade my GPU and my case.

I am having spacing issues and heating issues on my current case (Corsair 465X).

I am planning to upgrade the case to a Lian-LI PC-011D Dynamic XL Rog Edition, the AIO to Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX and i plan to add 6 fans both at the top and bottom.

It's also worth to mention that in a future (4-5 months) i will upgrade to an RTX 3090, more specific EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING.

My actual PC looks like this:

• Monitor 1: NewSkill Icarus 27" QHD 165hz G-Sync compatible.

My concern is the PSU, will it be enough for the upgrades (including GPU) or will i need to change it? If so, i am going to buy the first upgrades the next month.

Before anyone says anything about the RTX 3090 being overkill for 1440p (doesn't mean i will only play at 1440p), i plan to buy it to save enough money to buy a new GPU in 5-6 years.

That is a very power hungry card, here 507w for the card alone in this test

With this card I wouldn’t risk it on anything below a high quality new 850w or greater.

For a 3090?

I would not take any PSU lower than 850 W. And platin- or titanium-standard.

+gold does have an average of just 90% at 50% duty. And a bit lower at 100%.

Let's take 90%. That means, if the PSU pulls out 750 W from outlet, your PC only gets about 675 W. And when you read some tests about 3080/3090 and the much higher, but very short power spikes, than you should agree with me.

How old is the PSU in your current build? You should look into a PSU that can deliver at least 850W of power to the entire system.

My default recommendation for quality/price is the Corsair RM850x.

The manufacturer minimum PSU is listed as 750w for that GPU. I always tend to look for a 20-25% gap between recommended minimum and what I'd buy since you never know what you might want to add in the future. In your case I'd be looking for something closer to a 1000w supply but you can get by with a quality 850w unit as others have said.
