Is my psu for for the gtx 970?

Hi,

I have an xfx pro 550w core edition - looks like it's classed as a tier 2 PSU from the list on here.

I'm about to install the MSI gtx 970 and I'm wondering if 550w will be enough with my i5 3570k. I want to overclock both (i5 is cooled by h100i) but not too aggressively since I'm new to it.

And just checking but - the 970 needs an 8 pin and six pin connector, my PSU has a 6 and a 6+2 - this is fine right?

Yes your power cables are fine, and your psu should handle the 970 fine.
The 970 is very power efficient, heck it even draws less than the gtx 770. So your psu should handle it just fine
