A GeForce GTX 980ti needs 38 amps on the 12v+raIL and at least a 600W power supply with 1 - 6 pin and 1 - 6+2 pin PCIE power connections , your PSU easily exceeds these requirements and is good quality.
The Corsair RM850 Gold is a great PSU, totally suitable for your system, although there may be cheaper alternatives. For the kit you have, you do not need more than 650W. Do you plan to later SLI 980ti's?

I have a i7 6700k, EVGA GeForce 980ti 6 GB, and a Cosair RM850 Gold Cerified. Is this setup proper for high FPS?
If you plan to do some fairly large upgrades, I would advise going with a bit bigger wattage PSU right off the bat. If you wanted a bigger PSU around 1000+ watts, I would recommend one of these. https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/power-supply/#W=1000,2000&m=71
I don't think I will SLI; however, I just installed my GPU and the PCI plugs are a bit annoying it touches the case window. The cord management is quite poor right now. The GPU is so big for my H440.
