Is my ram compatible with my cpu

I recently bought a MSI X299, intel i7 7740x, and g skill ddr4 - 3200 ram on the internet. its arrived ive installed everything but it wont boot. the dram led is illuminated and there is an error code E0 on the motherboard. Ive read the specs in the i7 and it say supported ram ddr4 - 2666. Have i just gotten incompatible ram?

G.Skill 2 x 8 GB dual channel kit part number F4-3200C16D-16GTZR is compatible with the motherboard.

Make absolutely certain that cables/wires that have to be connected to the motherboard are in the correct sockets and are inserted properly.

Make sure the memory slots are free from dust, dirt etc and that no contacts are damaged etc.

Insert memory modules firmly.

Clear CMOS.
