Is my SATA port still usabe

I installed a second HDD into my Dell inspiron 17r and it didn't come with screws to secure it to the bracket. The HDD is now dead, although I was able to recover most of my data. Is the SATA port of the laptop still usable if a disk can be read from it?

A hard drive dying doesn't affect the port.
