Hi,

I'd like to put together the following setup:

Asus Maximus VIII Hero
Intel Core i7-6700K
2 x 8GB DDR4
2 x GTX 970
2 x SSD
1 x SATA
1 x Bluray
and probably some Corsair watercooler (not sure which one yet).

My local store tells me that I need a 1000W power supply. Just wanted to make sure before I buy it.

Thanks!

SLI doesnt even properly work on most games so i really suggest you not to do that but like 980ti (6 GB) would be better if you want something over 4gb since gtx970 is a 3.5gb card so you will get about 7 gb (in something like DX12 otherwise just 3.5gb effectively for dx11 and below). And like i said Dual-GPUs has some nice benefits on paper but have almost little to none real use at gaming and such.

As for PSU go for EVGA, Superflower, Seasonic etc. Tier 1 or Tier 2 PSUs as you can check here http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html (1000 watts is totally overkill :) )

I did some research and according to Nvidia, GTX 970 maximum power is 145W. With that, 2 of them will need 290W, CPU probably around 100W. The rest maybe another 200-300W. Why do I need 850 or 1000W power supply?

Ouch! 250W is a lot...

I wish there was a way to know power needs in case I decide to change the parts.
