Is my SSD dead?

I bought an OCZ 60GB SSD from Newegg and it was working last night but now it's not showing up in the BIOS or device manager. I disconnected my HD before installing Windows onto the SSD and I set it as my primary boot drive. After I got the drivers and some programs installed I shut down the pc and reconnected the HD but when I turned it back on there was a grinding sound so I quickly flipped the power switch on the PSU. I pulled the HD out but it didn't seem to be damaged so I put it back in and turned on the pc, it worked fine after that. This mourning I started my pc and it booted from the HD a little slower than normal and the SSD is nowhere to be found in the BIOS or Windows. Is there anything worth trying that might fix the SSD and what could that noise have been? As slow as my internet connection is, I can't think of much worse than a dying hard drive along with a dead SSD. Please help.

Solution
I would try to check it out with CrystalDiskInfo or a specific OCZ drive diagnostic to see if the SMART values indicate bad things. If anything is amiss return it to Newegg ASAP. Otherwise I would do a secure erase and disconnect everything else then install Windows onto the SSD. Then attach other drives.

I tried few things and the SSD still wouldn't work so I took it out. The hard drive seems fine and after removing the SSD, Windows started faster. I got to enjoy the speed of an SSD for 2 whole hours. If I hadn't sent my broken R9 280X back to Newegg a few days ago the SSD could have went with it. 🙁
