[SOLVED] Is My SSD Okay?

Friends,

This is the second day I've had problems opening programs on my PC. I'll click any program--Word, Outlook, Paint, etc...--and the PC will just there. Also, if I try to open a new tab to browse a website, it just sits there, circle rolling, and never opens the website. If I restart, which takes forever, the problem keeps coming up. It will behave for awhile, then it will act up. I've opened Samsung Magician and it reports my SSD is okay. Is my SSD failing? Or is it the O/S? I have provided SMART status for my SSD below. Any insight would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

The SMART data looks OK. How full is that 250GB disk? If it is above 80% then your performance could be significantly impacted.
Also, what about RAM usage?

Very happy to hear my SSD is okay. I have 190 GB free out of 250 GB. Only 42 GB is used. I have 4 GB of ram that is not used. The other half the system is using or will be on stand-by. I've had this machine for years and it has never, ever acted this way. I'm starting to think the O/S has given up the ghost. Thoughts?

Also, I've ran CHKDSK on my SSD and my backup mechanical HDD and everything checks out okay. Same with SFC.

I am surprised you have 4GB RAM available. With the OS and the integrated graphics, I would have expected less.

I don't know. What does Windows task manager look like when these freezes happen?
A clean OS install is never a bad thing for performance.

I ran the built in Windows Memory Diagnostics and it came up clean. I also ran DISM check health and scan health. Everything came back clean. It may look like a reinstall of Windows is in my future. Unless anyone else has any insight?

Also, when looking at my S.M.A.R.T. data, do I look at Raw Data as the number? Or do I look at threshold? Thanks!

No I don't think you need to re os you just have to run trim on the SSD and you should be fine

To understand the SMART attribute data, let's take Power-on Hours as our example.

Code:

Description      Threshold   Current Value   Worst Value   Raw Data

Power-on Hours   0           96              96            19329

The Raw Data are the actual number of hours that the drive has been powered on.

The Threshold, Current Value and Worst Value numbers are normalised health scores. The drive begins life with a 100% health score and this number declines as the hours increase. The Threshold represents a health score of 0. When the Current value falls below the Threshold, the drive records a failure for that attribute.

In the case of Power On Hours, the Worst health score is always equal to the Current value. For other attributes (eg Airflow Temperature) the Worst score can be less than the Current.

In the present case the drive has lost 4 points from the POH attribute. This means that it is losing roughly 1 point per 5000 hours.

AFAICT, the POR Recovery Count attribute is recording the number of times that the SSD has had to recover from an unsafe shutdown. That occurs after your OS crashes or your system loses power.

Went ahead and reinstalled the O/S. So far, so good. Also, Outlook was using Onedrive to store my .PST file, which causes all kinds of issues. I went ahead and moved the data file to my local SSD. Fingers crossed!

Reinstalled the O/S and migrated my .PST files for Outlook from One Drive to my local SSD. Everything is working perfectly. =) Don't know if it was the O/S or an issue with Outlook/One Drive.
