Hello, so my i7 860 cpu on idle stays around 60 celsius and when gaming it stays on 80-90 celsius. I have just replaced it with brand new thermal paste, the heat sink is the stock intel one but should'nt the temps be lower? Also my PSU is pretty old so is the case but it has many holes tho. Heres my thermal paste https://www.konigelectronic.com/computer/cooling/cooling-paste-silver-1002519

With all that's been said in your thread's body, you forgot to include more information.
Please list your specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

Yes we'll need the make and model of the PSU and not just the wattage. Also include the age of the PSU. How much thermal paste did you use? Does the stock cooler you have, have a copper core?

Looking at the link you've given, it's not in any way, branded...so yeah it's bad/sub par.

Full system specs will be useful.

I have not used the paste you have linked (Konig brand). - but I do know that if the thermal paste itself was the problem - you'd wouldn't see a huge difference in temperatures. Put it this way, that paste might not be good quality, but even if you switched it for top end thermal paste - you probably would see a 5-10 degree difference at most.

It's much more dependant on HOW you apply it. Ensuring that any old paste is thoroughly cleaned, and that the paste spreads out to a very thin and smooth layer. But yes - better thermal paste will also help.

If you're overclocknig, obviously that will contribute, as well as how much heat your other components generate in proximity to each other.
