I have a Zalman z11 case with USB 3.0s. I have a asus m5a97 motherboard with no USB 3.0 headers.

Does that mean my 3.0 USB ports on my case are useless and I cannot do anything about it?

If the motherboard does not support USB 3.0, then you will be limited to whatever it DOES support.

However - according to ASUS: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97/

USB 3.0 support

Experience ultra-fast data transfers at 4.8 Gb/s with USB 3.0–the latest connectivity standard. Built to connect easily with next-generation components and peripherals, USB 3.0 transfers data 10X faster and is also backward compatible with USB 2.0 components

Delving deeper into the specs:
USB Ports
ASMedia® USB 3.0 controller :
2 x USB 3.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue)

AMD SB950 controller :
12 x USB 2.0 port(s) (6 at back panel, black, 6 at mid-board)

So it would seem that there are no USB 3.0 headers on the motherboard. And as such, nothing to connect to the 3.0 ports on the case.
Sorry.
