Hi,

I would like to say that this might sound absolutely non-sense-ly. But, I would love you guys to read till the end of the story.
So, I once hooked one of my laptops (MacBook Pro 2011 early version) to one of the wall ethernet (?) ports using CAT5e ethernet wire. However, the computer did not gain any access to the internet at all, and repeatedly said that the laptop is not connected to the internet.
Here's my question:
- How does the wall internet-related plugs work?
- Did I need a wireless router in-between the wall jack and the laptop itself?
- If I did, which wireless router would you suggest to use it on a MacBook Pro? I was thinking about Airport Express.
- Is there any chance that I will have to break down the house and do all the cabling again to make the ports work?
- Is there any chance that my Ethernet wire is broken?

Thank you in advance and thanks for your time!

firstly, i accidentally pressed to choose the solution, so you are not unaccepted :) sorry for confusion.

I am not completely sure how it is supposed to be working, but in my case it is connected to my laptop directly.

Hi,

So connecting the wall jack directly to laptop wouldn't work? please explain in depth for me..
I'm kind of noob when it comes to networking.

Thanks

You plug your laptop into the wall Ethernet socket. From there a wire will run to somewhere in the building. At that end it needs to be connected to a router, modem or hub ect. Think of it as an extension for your network cable, if nothing is connected at the other end you wont get Internet ect.

Hi,

I am somehow more confused. So i have two modem or routers i am not really sure. One is what i got in Korea from my ISP, and another one is what i got from another ISP here in the netherlanss. The dutch modem/router has 4 ethrrnet slots with a/vdsl line plugges in, in which i think it is a phone line. The korean one has 1 ethernet, and both have wireless LAN ability.

I guess this is enough explanation about my current setup.

Thanks.
