i just wanted a bit of clarification on how it works. ive got the nighthawk ac1750 router and as an option it gives is to enable a vpn. however the description makes it sound like id be somehow using my home wifi instead of whatever access point im connecting to. im curious if it actually encrypts data or not, and if im misunderstanding how it works in this case. also would it be a replacement for a paid vpn such as tunnelbear or pia?

The router's VPN service allows you to access your home network's resources when you are away from home. It is an encrypted connection, so it also provides a secure (not anonymous) means of Internet access via your home connection when using unsecure (public) access points.

A paid VPN service provides an encrypted connection for anonymity or location spoofing.

thanks i was just seeing if it would really be worth the trouble for me to setup
