Question Is Newegg trustworthy?

I haven't rebuilt in a few years now and am not sure if I should still trust Newegg. I used to buy all my components there but understand they aren't what they used to be. It seems there are a lot of dissatisfied customers now. Who are the reliable, but reasonably priced, suppliers these days?

Newegg is still alright if you buy new products that are sold and shipped by Newegg. Just like all the other e-tailers they now host third party sellers who are far less scrupulous.

I pretty much stick to Newegg and Amazon depending on who is cheaper.

Of late the only things I don't like are when you buy small things like memory or NVMe SSDs separately. They sometimes just come in a bubble wrap envelope or shipping bag.

Newegg's customer service has really went south lately. They've allowed 3rd party resellers to become part of their inventory and it has really hurt them. (Again this is strictly my personal opinion).

Use PCPartsPicker and it will show you some alteratives that you might not have considered.

All of the sold and shipped from them only no 3rd party sellers unless its SuperFlower on newegg.

For Newegg never had a problem if I order it in the morning and it ships from Memphis I get it the next day.

Amazon I've had some shipping problems.

B&H only ordered one thing and never again. Ordered a motherboard, UPS tracking number sent to me I looked at it for 2 weeks and it still showed at B&H warehouse, called and canceled the order.

I used to shop almost exclusively at Newegg. In the past couple of years I have had various issues with them, but nothing that was bad enough to stop using them when the pricing or availability is good. I think my longest time gripe with them is the complete hassle of using a credit/debit card with them. They use some manner of Google verification and my bank turns it down every single time. I typically use PayPal to avoid the issue.

If I am going to build a complete system all at once, I go to Microcenter. Otherwise, I tend to shop for the best deals and delivery time between the jungle site, Newegg, or Best Buy. If I am looking to compare items or find the most selection given my criteria, I like to use Newegg due to how good their filters are.

I've ordered multiple things through BH, mostly camera stuff.
Never a problem.
I had a cheap z67 motherboard for my 2500K and ordered a better Z77 AsRock Extreme 4 it was like 20 bucks less from them all I know was my experience.

But that was years ago so could be better now. Still I don't use them at all.

EDIT Surprisingly that board and processor still work although not stable @5.2 anymore over time I went from 4.6 on the cheap Z67 to 5.2 on the Z77 over time had to lower it to 5.0 then 4.8.

Thanks for the replies everyone. So Newegg is still OK but watch for and skip 3rd party sellers. This is the longest I've gone without a rebuild in 30 years. Moore's law isn't what it used to be.

Only if "Sold and Shipped by Newegg"

NO 3rd party sellers.
What do you think of PCPartsPicker recommended builds, like the "Great AMD Gaming Build"? I don't have the patience for reviewing perf charts like I used to do. If they get me to 95% of a great cost effective build, that's probably good enough. I assume this still beats a prebuilt almost every time. I don't need a super high end machine, just something that can stand up to Bethesda games lack of optimization.

thanks, one old guy to (I assume) another.

They're OK as a starting point.
But with every single one, there or elsewhere, there would be parts I'd change.

Not anymore. Newegg was the go to for parts and at a good price.

These days they engage in unethical practices and do not stand by their sales.

I wouldn't use them. If you absolutely must, use a Credit Card NOT Debit. Film everything from the second you receive the package to unboxing to inspecting in the event of issues.

Haven't bought anything from them since they sold out to the Chinese in 2016, when they were sold to Hangzhou Lianluo Interactive Information Technology Co.,Ltd. which is listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

A couple years ago, that company spun subsidiaries Newegg Inc. and Lianluo Smart Limited off into a separate shell company they named Newegg Commerce, Inc. and is listed on the Nasdaq.

Newegg is still trustworthy.

I've had one bad experience with a 3rd party vendor but the rest have been fine. In general, use the filters to limit results to parts located in the US, and prioritize "sold by newegg" deals and at least "shipped by newegg" otherwise.

As long as Newegg is selling or shipping the product you should be fine.

Other than that, if it is sold/shipped directly from the manufacturer (Rosewill, Phanteks, Fractal, etc) you'll be fine.

I've had a problem every time I have ordered from B&H.

DDR3 launch I tried to get some memory, they had it in stock, I ordered it, then they didn't have it in stock, so I had to go through the whole refund process.
Second time I ordered a case, it came with none of the fan filters it was supposed to have and I ended up having to pay to ship it back.

And I'm not a fan of their signature required deliveries. But they had the lowest price on my current CPU, so I ended up waiting for it. Didn't arrive on the day the tracking suggested so I had to sit and wait around another day for it.

I have gotten to where I do this with any expensive item received. I actually started doing so in relation to trading in a lot of paintball equipment buy and sell. I would take pictures at each step of me packing or unpacking items. I had purchased a marker one time and got an empty box with a big rip in the side. Even with PayPal they don't like protecting sellers much anymore, so you have to CYA.

Stock ticker is NEGG.

Over 100 dollars in 2014.

Over 75 as recently as 2021.

3 dollars a share in January 2023.

77 cents today, near its all time low.

I don't follow the stock, but that's not a good sign.
I wonder why their stock is doing so bad considering around the time of the pandemic they were at $46 a share.

Long term chart below; 12 years of data.

Like many, many Asian tech stocks, it is subject to periodic wild speculation.

Quadrupling or quintupling in days, followed by collapses back toward longer term prices. Tout, rumor, attract fools, de-tout, lather, rinse, repeat.

It hit a new low today; down 8.5 percent to 70 cents

I have NO idea what earnings are nor do I have any idea about Newegg's prospects as a vendor.

Absolutely and that's why you need to use a Credit card against big merchants like Newegg

If you have an issue and the merchant won't work with you a la Newegg, you call your CC company and file a chargeback.

With a credit card you fight not to pay, Debit you have to fight to get your money back. If you have sufficient evidence, the CC will side with you.

For those that don't know, just because your Debit Card says Credit doesn't mean it's treated the same as a true credit card.
