I run avast free edition. If you get on download.com and look under their top downloads section, that is usually number one each week, the editors there rate it 4.5 out of 5, same for the votes it has for users.

Plus it's light on your system. Kaspersky is decent, I'd run avast, enable it's PUPs protection, and use common sense. One thing i like with avast as well is it has a boot time scanner so if you think you have issues it can scan before the computer starts all the way up. That's what i trust my system to, had a tech recommend that to me a while back and have always been happy with it.
Norton 360 is just that, 360° coverage, so not only has antiviral coverage, but utilities for PC, like back-up, defrag etc. It's basically an expanded version of Norton security.

I don't know much about the kapersky, but the thing about Norton products is they are 'deep diver' programs. They get their paws associated with everything. Years ago, this was a bone of contention with many as it could drastically slow a pc down with all the running services. What that would mean though is the program would recognize much better any changes. With hijackers and other Trojan in that genre, many anti-virus programs don't see them till it's too late, and a scan is run.

I've run Norton products for over 20 years and only run into 1 Trojan that was not automatically removed. Norton did recognise it and had a fix on their website, but it involved manual participation due to the nature of the Trojan.

Which one is better? That's usually a matter if opinion, but Norton hasn't failed me yet.

There really is no best. Too many hackers and virus artists come up with too much crap on a daily basis for 1 single anti-virus program to be truly effective. Also to consider is that it's people who are targeted most, not the companies that write the virus scanners, so Norton and others rely on those people to send them the virus to be torn down and a scan/fix implemented.

Norton is pretty good, and has an extensive community to draw from, it helps that some people actually pay for the service. AVG is free, and also pretty good, as are others.

I prefer Norton, and I chase it with Spybot Search and Destroy. I've tried Ad-Aware, AVG, malwarebytes, McKafee and several others. They all worked pretty much the same, I just prefer Norton's way, and have had a good history with them.

If you are happy with the idea security and have no use for the other stuff, stick with it. If you need stuff like backup, tune-up, defrag, optimize etc, then go for the 360, they will have the same anti-virus, one has more additions than the other. Try Norton Web page and look up what does what and decide what you need.
