Is not getting a new hard drive worth 1070 to 1080?

What case and PSU do you have? Please be specific on the power supply.

With a $1000 budget there isn't much reason to compromise here. Assuming you aren't gaming at 4k, the GTX 1070 is plenty of GPU power. The build below assumes your case will fit a long GPU, and that your PSU is a quality unit. To be honest, I don't know of any 600w PSUs that are good units (Tier 1 or Tier 2) and should be used for an overclocking / gaming setup.

My case is some raid max case. And my psu is the lepa mx-f1 which i picked up at frys. I believe my cas will fit an over sized card but I do not know because I am away on vacation for the week end.

Your case will probably fit the GPU, but check out specs before committing.

Your PSU leaves a lot to be desired. It is a Tier 4 unit that is noted for issues with over-current protection and poor capacitors. Not saying it wouldn't work, but if you are set on overclocking or high detail gaming then I would recommend looking at a Tier 1 or Tier 2 unit. This typically falls with XFX, Seasonic, or the EVGA G2 / G3 / GS / GX lineups at the most reasonable cost. You get what you pay for here so it is not recommended to go cheap..

Seasonic G-650 is a good Tier 2 PSU. I have the 450 watt version for my lower powered system. Excellent review by a respected reviewer:

Any reputable vendor will be fine. Black Friday has not been too kind the last few years in this regard so don't count on good deals being available. As mentioned before... Tier 1 or Tier 2 units will always be recommended, and you get what you pay for (don't go cheap).

Ok I was thinking the SeaSonic m12ii would that work? Also would you recommend a high end 1070 over a low end 1080?
