I am going to buy GeForce GT 240 1gb card for playing big games like fifa 13.gta iv,far cry 3,blackops 2 etc.is this card good for gaming.my pc name is acer veriton s460 i am currently running windows 8 pro and my pc are core 2 duo 2.3ghz e6550 with 2gb ram.

that card is quite old. even when the cards debut it was considered as entry level card. at low resolution it should do fine with low to mid in most games. from the games you mention above this card will struggle with far cry 3. not sure about fifa 13 though. maybe medium setting on GTA 4 and black ops 2

Old card. Its a rebranded 9600gt. So technically its 4 generations old. IT WILL NOT even run Far Cry 3 AT THE LOWEST of settings.

Asw Asura said. Consider at least an HD6670 or HD7750. Neither of which is great but at least they are MUCH better than the GT240.

it is not. they perform in the same range but if i remember correctly 9600GT still a bit faster. 9600GT based on G94. GT240 is based on GT200 core architecture something called G218(?).

if you dont mind playing older games the gt240 is fine. it will handle stuff like oblivion and fallout 3 quite well, some older fps like crysis/crysis warhead on low settings, bfbc2, farcry 1/2. 2gb ram is going to be a problem, dont know why your running windows 8, windows xp would be best for that PC. gtaiv will run at low settings, i used to run it on an 8800gts 640mb fine (which is similar to gt240 in performance) but your cpu will more of a bottleneck there and your ram is not enough, at least 4gb is a minimum for that game to run smoothly. it will still run pretty poor due to your cpu though, if you can OC your cpu to at least 3ghz you stand a better chance, but since its an Acer, overcloking will be limited. So basically, stick to older games if you really want to follow through with this and get at least 4gb ram.

My mistake. But they perform almost identically. I must be confused with a different card then.

i believe there is a ddr3 and ddr5 version of the gt240 also, the ddr3 version is a fair amount slower.

I ran with a gts 240 for 4 years. I almost maxed out far cry 3 and bf3 at 30 fps 1080p resolution. if the s in the name dosent change much then this is a great card for what you can get it for. The only thing is it runs kinda hot but stilll stable.

you were posting on old thread. anyway GTS240 and GT240 are totally in different class of performance.

Sorry, but I think the VGA GT 240 also has a very pretty for the upper middle class
although this vga relatively old version

I have tried tp sniper elite v2 game with a resolution of 1440x900
with ULTRA quality on Shadow And Graphs, and 16x anti Scrop-sample, low settings on FXAA, no ambient occlusion

I get 27 fps average and at least 21

and this is my computer spec:

- Biostar gt 240 1gb ddr 3
- 2 gb ram ddr 2 pc 5300
- Core2Duo E8400 @ 3GHz processor
