Is PCI express 2.0 x8 graphics card compatible with a PCI express x16 motherboard?

I am buying a new graphics card http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5113#ov

while my motherboard has PCI-E x16 interface http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2893#ov

Is it compatible?

Are you sure? I know that the PCI 2.0 is compatible with the motherboard because they are backwards compatible but what about x8 bus interface the graphics card has? what does it mean?

Yes, more lanes is not a problem. You can stick a 1x card in a 16x slot if you want.

A 8x interface probably allows them to save money, and it's a pretty low end GPU. It doesn't need any more bandwidth.

Yeah number of lanes is fully compatible too. You could stick an x1 network card in an x16 slot if you really wanted to.

x1 x8 x16 etc is a number pci lanes

I ask because they have the same price and i want a extra opinion. The first one has exactly x16 interface as my motherboard but the second one is much better right ?

Yeah the second one has a newer, more powerful GPU as well as GDDR5 memory.
