It looks like the new r9 280x that I got for my i5 4460 is too big. I am not good with pcs and should've probably checked on that and open the cover and see how much space got in there, but i didnt. By checking on the internet I did notice that it is compatible and people use r9s with 4460 pcs easily, so I had no doubts, but ever since I removed the cover I noticed there's simply not enough room for this card in ym case. So my question is: do i return the card back to vendor or is there anything that could be done and if there is, what is it exactly that could be done to fit that card in? or should i just pay more and get it to some computer store for some pro to do it?

The CPU does not have the watts, it's the power supply. Don't refer to the computer as the "cpu", CPU is specifically the processor chip.

The nVidia 750 Ti will be a good improvent over an R7 240 and comes in a small form and should run on the power supply in that system.
The i5 4460 is not the name of the computer, it's the name of the CPU. Yes the 4460 can handle the 280 just fine but the problem seems to be you bought a prebuilt computer from the store and the form factor for the case is small or irregular. This is pretty typical for prebuilt computers from manufactures such as Dell, HP, etc as those computers are built without upgrades in mind for the most part, such as space for larger video cards. Another thing is, because it's a prebuilt, it's power supply is probably not the greatest so that is important to check in the future when upgrading to make sure it can provide enough power for the card. As for your current situation, there isn't much you can do, I'd recommend a new case but sometimes those motherboards are built specifically for those cases and aren't compatible with traditional atx cases. At that point you might as well build a new computer. I'm sorry I couldn't be much of help, I suppose the only thing you can do is look for a smaller card that will fit into your case.

Thanks a lot for the reply!
Ya its a pre-built PC bought at best buy if i recall correctly last year.

This is pretty much what I have: http://www.acer.ca/ac/en/CA/content/model/DT.SRQAA.019

The one exception is mine is 4460.

it says ATC-605-EB1H on my case

Windows 8.1
Intel Core i5-4460 3.10 GHz
AMD Radeon R7 240 with Dedicated Memory
8 GB, DDR3 SDRAM
1 TB HDD

It feels upsetting, spent 230$ on that video card via amazon, but at least I can return it until the end of january, so that helps.

I would be happy with some recommendation for my situation. Im assuming theres not much to do with this huge radeon since no way its going to fit in my case.

I would be really thankful if someone could recommend a good card that my pc would be able to handle, but most importantly that I could fit in it myself as I really dont want to bring my pc to a computer store, pay more for them to do it, even though I never dealt with pc's myself Iv'e done my research and it looks like installing a video card isnt hard, I just now want to know what card I should get that will fit my case, hopefully its a powerful one too.

I initially though of gtx 960 vs r9, but now i think gtx 960 also would not fit my box.

I kinda think if i now have to change the case and all that stuff its all gonna cost a lot of money . . .as I wouldnt be doing it myself.

Also when I opened the case I couldn't see how many WATTS my cpu has, like the number is not there or im not looking at the right place.

Thanks for the help!
