Is ram compatible across AMD and Intel chipsets?

I’ve been browsing memory and I see that some kits will list compatibility with Intel Z170/X99. Does that mean it’s only compatible with those chipsets or that it’s optimized for them, and if it means they’re optimized for those chipsets will it still run fine on AMD?

In theory, any DDR4 should work on any DDR4 motherboard, no matter if it's Intel or AMD. In practice, while Intel accepts pretty much any DDR4, Ryzen is not so forgiving, and it is better to consult with motherboard QVL list when planning memory for it.
