Is ROG Strix GTX 1050 Ti compatible with my build?

My build is:
Processor: Intel Core i7-8700 3.20 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-F
RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY DDR4 (2x8GB)
Power Supply: FSP Raider 650W

Most of my PC parts have been replaced recently because my old motherboard broke down. I'm still using my GTX 650 but it seems to have been damaged by the breakdown and hasn't been working properly since the upgrade. A friend told me that if I keep using my damaged graphic card there's a big chance it will pull other components with it and break them.

I'm looking to buy a new graphics card soon for my work and my budget is only fit for a GTX 1050 Ti. I'm not sure which model or brand I should go for but Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is the only model available at the store I buy components from. I also heard that GPU cards will drop in prices this month but I don't want to risk trying to work with my old card waiting for said price drops. Any recommendations?

Solution
Short answer. It will work just fine.

Be sure to reinstall your graphics drivers for posterity's purpose. You will find a nice upgrade in that, and as you said, it fits your budget.

If you had a lightning strike, or some other power surge, then yes your components could have been damaged. If your GPU was damaged this way, then yes, it could damage your new components, depending on the damage it received. I would agree with your friend on this point. Change it.
Hey, will work. Let me offer you a better compromise for gaming: i5-8600k plus GTX 1060. Should cost more or less the same and will bring more graphics performance.
For the 1050 ti I would go for every card with a dual fan solution. The rest including clock rates is not so much of a difference.
