Is a 5700XT/2060 SUPER unnecessary for a 1080p 144/165hz monitor, or should I spend the extra money for a 1440p 144hz monitor? I'm planning to make this pc last for a good 4-5 years before doing a major upgrade to it. My system has a Ryzen 5 3600 btw.

i dont think they would be overkill, since you are midrange still on gpus in this case wich do work fine at 1080p. U wont be getting 144 fps on 1080p in metro Exodus for example with high/ultra settings, much less, on 1440p resolution ,unless u really want to hit the 144 fps mark , u fire up tetris and have vsync/gsync on.

edit: And 5 years is a long time to plan ahead. In 3 - 4 years current gpus might get challenged differently or like the 10XX lineup - not at all. And base 2060 wasnt much of an improvement , nvidia is doing the intel. new name , flashy colors ... but same <Mod Edit>. And raytracing isn t that common to have 4 years development time for a slightly better gpu wasted.
