Is samsung galaxy J5 a good smartphone=?

That, is a loaded question. I prefer Apple, to me, all Andriod phones are slow and poorly optimized. I haven't heard the phone, so I am going to assume that is is a cheap version of the S5, which would be "slow" to some users. It really depends on what you use the phone for.

It's good if you're on a budget, since it's a pretty decent mid-ranger, with specs that will allow you run all the apps you want. Still, don't expect a top camera or an excellent display.

I can recommend you the Galaxy J5, it is a good budget smartphone. I recommended it to my friend and reading reviews about it, it is good for its price. What type of games do you want play? It is not strong enough to play the high end games smoothly and you just have 8gb of internal storage space. You can extend it with micro SD card, but the internal can make problems if you install heavy games. And the ram and cpu is not made for high end games. For most non high end games, this phone is right (I suppose).

Btw, I have an iPhone and Android and experience with several Android devices. Every cheaper smartphone will perform worse than an iPhone. A similiar priced Android to iPhone is not worse in terms of performance.

I realy recomend this http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone_2_ze551ml-6917.php, be carefull there are multiple zenfone 2 variants but this is ze551ml i recomend, has no performance drop after 30 mins of playtime as all qualcom soc has (it is known that qualcom has a 50% drop of performance after few minutes of gameplay), has no lag in any game, can run any game smooth and has android (this is iphone hardware on a android platform, more exactly iphone 5s and iphone 6 videocard on a intel quadcore cpu and a good amount of ram).

EDIT: After 3 high end samsung and 1 high end sony now i have an iphone 6s plus and i will never go back on android. Very very good optimized system and after of hours of gameplay i dont have any fps drops or performance drops.
